The Job-Embedded pathway is an alternative pathway to teacher licensure. The program allows individuals holding a bachelors degree to be hired as the Teacher of Record while completing the Tennessee Department of Educations requirements for teacher licensure.
Admission to the EPP. Undergraduate candidates must meet the following requirements for admission to the Educator Preparation Program: Minimum of 24 semester hours in general education. Transfer hours can count toward this requirement. Minimum GPA of 2.75 in all course work at Union University.
If the additional endorsement sought is not listed as an assessment- only option, educators may add the endorsement by completing an approved additional endorsement program and passing the required assessment(s). A list of TN State Board-approved educator preparation providers is available here.
An initial teaching license in Tennessee is called a practitioner teacher license, and its valid for three years. From there, with the appropriate experience and professional development points, you can advance to a professional teaching license.
PROFESSIONAL LICENSES An educator may apply for a Professional License only after completing three years of employment under an Initial License in the same field. Time spent employed while working under a Provisional, Temporary License or a waiver does not count toward obtaining a Professional License.
