You must earn (pass with a D or better) 24 hours each academic year to retain your TOPS award. Failure to earn (pass with a D or better) 24 hours will result in permanent cancellation of your award unless you are granted an exception for cause. (See the QA entitled Exceptions.)
A student must attend a Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) Approved High School. All Louisiana public schools are approved. A student must have a minimum TOPS Core Curriculum GPA of 2.50 (GPA computed on TOPS Core Curriculum courses only).
Continuing TOPS students are not required to reapply for TOPS or complete a renewal FAFSA unless they qualify for federal grant aid, but they must maintain eligibility based on their award level each year.
Once you lose your Performance or Honors Award, you cannot regain it. You must achieve the TOPS Cumulative GPA required for the Opportunity Award at the end of the academic year or your TOPS Award will be suspended until you have regained academic standing and have achieved the required TOPS Cumulative GPA.
As a TOPS recipient, you must enroll as a full-time student during each fall and Spring semester, fall, winter, spring term during the academic year, remain continuously enrolled, and must earn 24 hours of credit during the academic year. Failure to do so will result in cancellation of your TOPS award.
