Georgias governor says the state will pay a $1,000 year-end bonus to public and school employees. ATLANTA (AP) Georgias government will put a little extra jingle in the pockets of state, university and public school employees, paying them a $1,000 year-end bonus, Gov. Brian Kemp announced Monday.
Public school teachers would get a $2,500 raise starting July 1, boosting average teacher pay in Georgia above $65,000 annually, as the Republican governor proposed in January. That is in addition to a $1,000 bonus Kemp sent out in December. Prekindergarten teachers also would get a $2,500 raise.
Teacher incentives and bonuses are monetary rewards that are linked to specific performance criteria, such as student achievement, teacher evaluation, or school improvement. These rewards aim to attract, retain, and motivate teachers who are effective, committed, and innovative.
A $2,500 increase, plus honoring the step associated with years of experience, for all teachers and certified staff totals $17.3 million in the general budget. A 4.1% salary increase for all classified staff (including bus drivers, School Nutrition employees, front office staff, etc.)
