THE CANS. The Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) is a multiple purpose information integration tool that is designed to be the output of an assessment process. The purpose of the CANS is to accurately represent the shared vision of the child/youth serving systemchildren, youth, and families.
Staff complete the CANS recertification exam independently. The recertification exam may be taken as many times as needed to receive a passing score of no less than 70%. Coaches, CANS Liaisons, and trainers need a passing score of no less than 80%.
You can take the certification exam as many times as you need to pass. However, the Praed Foundation strongly recommends that you take your time and review the course materials before trying again. After three attempts, they will send you feedback to help you prepare to re-test.
A score of 3 indicates a need for intensive and/or immediate attention. 0 = A zero represents a significant area of strength for a child, it is the best rating a child can get in the area of strengths. 1 = a score of 1 implies a good strength that can be made even stronger.
