If you need to report a new employer or update your employment information, complete the Add New Employer or Update Current OPT Employer Information form in the F-1 Practical Training menu. Once reported, ISSS will issue a new Form I-20 that will contain a travel signature valid for 6 months from the date of update.
If you miss the 10 day reporting deadline, employment updates must still be reported although the SEVP Portal will not allow OPT students to report employment that began more than 10 days in the past. As such, you will need an OIS advisors assistance to submit your employment information for you.
The STEM OPT Extension is a type of work authorization specific to F-1 students who have graduated from an approved STEM field in the U.S.; as such, students are required to maintain their F-1 status and continue to report to OIS.
Report material changes of the STEM OPT students employment by submitting a modified Form I-983 to the DSO at the earliest available opportunity. Report the STEM OPT students termination of employment or departure to the DSO within 5 business days.
When a STEM OPT student changes employers, the new employer must be enrolled in E-Verify before the student begins to work for pay. The student must also submit a new Form I-983 to their DSO within 10 days of starting the new practical training opportunity.
