In Texas if your license is inactive and you do not work in nursing for 4 years or more you are required to take a Refresher Course in order to reactivate it. (There is just a fee if less than four years). There is not an active work/employment requirement in Texas.
If you wish to place your Texas nursing license in either inactive or retired status you may click the Inactivate your License button at the top of the Your Licenses with Texas box on the your Texas Nurse Portal account dashboard.
Putting a license in the inactive status means that a licensee has chosen not to practice, but wishes to maintain licensure so that she/he may return to practice in the future.
