The Asbestos National Strategic Plan (ANSP) provides a long-term phased approach to eliminate asbestos-related diseases in Australia. Phase one of the ANSP covered 2014 2018, and we are now in the second phase which will end in 2023.
The AMP plan ensures that relevant personnel (including contractors) know about asbestos risks. Training programs cover safe work practices, emergency procedures, and proper handling of ACMs. The plan must be easy for workers to understand. It must also be easy for PCBUs and safety reps to understand.
Your plan should include: who is responsible for managing asbestos including deputies. your asbestos register, including the site plan showing the location of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) and areas not inspected. the schedule for monitoring the condition of ACMs.
Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) for asbestos is 0.1 fiber per cubic centimeter of air as an eight-hour time-weighted average (TWA), with an excursion limit (EL) of 1.0 asbestos fibers per cubic centimeter over a 30-minute period. The employer must ensure that no one is exposed above these limits.
