(AUSTIN, Texas September 9, 2024) Beginning January 1, 2025, Texas vehicle owners will no longer be required to obtain a safety inspection prior to vehicle registration.
Required vehicle information to be presented to County Treasurers Office: Properly signed manufacturers statement/certificate of origin (MSO/MCO). Current proof of insurance. Sales Tax receipt. Property tax must be paid at the time of registration unless applying for a temporary plate.
VIN Inspections incur a cost of $20 and Salvage Inspections incur a cost of $25 and will be collected by the County Treasurer when your title is processed. Vehicles required to be towed or hauled to the examination site must be able to be unloaded and reloaded by the person presenting the vehicle for inspection.
If you are a new resident to Kansas who is licensing a vehicle that you have brought in from another state a VIN inspection by the Kansas Highway Patrol will be required to register the vehicle in Kansas.
