To be eligible to receive one of the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Awards, students must complete either volunteer service hours or paid work hours. Beginning with the class of 2023, students may now use work hours in lieu of service hours. Service and work hours can be combined.
Complete 30 volunteer service hours, 100 paid work hours, or the combination of 100 total hours. All students participating in a HE program must be registered with the district during the current and prior academic year.
Volunteer and/or Community Service Hours are not specifically required for high school graduation; however, it is highly recommended for life experience. (It also looks good on that first job applicaton) Additionally Community Service hours are required for all four of the Florida Bright Futures Scholarships.
Students must earn either the required volunteer service, paid work hours, or the combination of 100 total hours. The student may identify a social or civic issue or a professional area that interests them and develop a plan for their personal involvement in addressing the issue or learning about the area.
A Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholar is eligible for an award equal to the amount required to pay 75 percent of tuition and fees, if the student is enrolled in a public postsecondary education institution.

Student work hours are required to be documented on the district log sheet, signed by the student, the students parent or guardian, accompanied by pay stubs from a business with an established Federal ID number. Students shall evaluate and reflect upon their experience through papers or other presentations.
Renewal Requirements All Bright Futures recipients are required to meet minimum credit hour and GPA requirements to renew their award each year. Students enrolled full time for both semesters are required to earn at least 24 semester hours in order to renew their award at the end of each academic year.
