The United States government offers three student visa types including F, J, and M. Before you can apply for an F, J, or M student visa, you must first apply and be accepted by a U.S. institution of higher education that is certified by the Student Exchange and Visitor Program (SEVP).
You must be enrolled in an academic educational program, a language-training program, or a vocational program. Your school must be approved by the Student and Exchange Visitors Program, Immigration Customs Enforcement. You must be enrolled as a full-time student at the institution.
Working restrictions: A Tier 4, Student Visa allows you to work for a maximum of 20 hours per week during term-time. This is a maximum of 20 hours in total in any one week, including paid or unpaid work and for one or more organisation. The 20 hours cannot be averaged over a longer period.
The most common student visas are F-1 and M-1. F-1 visas are for full-time international students pursuing academic studies. M-1 visas are for full-time international students pursuing vocational studies.
Foreign students pursuing academic studies and/or language training programs are classified as F-1 nonimmigrants, while foreign students pursuing nonacademic or vocational studies are classified as M-1 nonimmigrants.

People also ask

International students or exchange students, also known as foreign students, are students who undertake all or part of their secondary or tertiary education in a country other than their own. In 2021, there were over 6.39 million international students, up from 5.12 million in 2016.
Tips for international students Make sure all your ducks are in a row. Get to know the US education system and your specific school really well. Be open to new experiences and perspectives. Build a support network. Take advantage of school resources and dont be afraid to ask questions.
For international students the major change is that is that the F-1 visa duration of status and Optional Practical Training (OPT) employment authorization has been extended to April 1st of the relevant fiscal year, rather than to October 1st, a six-month increase.
