The building permit fees for all commercial buildings/structures shall be $0.25 per square foot of unfinished area, and $0.50 per square foot of finished area. There will be no maximum fee. Renovations and minor additions: permit fees may be calculated at a rate of $12.50 per $1000 of estimated construction cost.
Some permit fees may contribute revenue to the general fund of the town, which ultimately is responsible for funding local infrastructure improvements and services that benefit the entire community.
Building permits can be obtained by the homeowner or a licensed contractor. The person or persons performing the work must obtain the permit. It is a violation of state law if a contractor commences work without first obtaining a permit under their state contractors license.
As the construction cost increases, the percentage of the DOB fees decreases. For example, as of 2021, the DOB fees for new buildings and alterations are calculated as follows: For the first $100,000 of construction cost: $0.25 per square foot. For the next $900,000 of construction cost: $0.20 per square foot.
Permits can be applied for online or in person at Development Services located at 1901 South Alamo, San Antonio, Texas. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday 7:45am to 4:30pm. You may contact Development Services by calling (210) 207-1111.
