The NICHQ Vanderbilt Assessment Scales are used by health care professionals to help diagnose ADHD in children between the ages of 6- and 12-years.
The NICHQ Vanderbilt Assessment Scale is validated for children aged 6 to 12 years. For younger children (under 6), observational tools are typically used. For adolescents, other tools like the ASRS (Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale) or Conners-3 are used.
Note: Vanderbilt Scales are updated to DSM-5 but only validated for DSM-4. Originally designed for the 6- to 12-year-old age group, they are applicable to other age groups, including preschoolers and adolescents.
