The Section 504 Process consists of four steps: (1) Referral; (2) Evaluation; (3) Eligibility Determination; and (4) the Section 504 Plan.
The factors of 504 in pairs are: 1 504 = (1, 504) 2 252 = (2, 252) 3 168 = (3, 168) 4 126 = (4, 126) 6 84 = (6, 84) 7 72 = (7, 72) 8 63 = (8, 63) 9 56 = (9, 56)
Section 504 evaluations may encompass record and work sample reviews; direct observation in the natural setting; interviews with the student, parent, and school personnel; and/or administration of more formal assessment measures.
Decisions about who qualifies for Section 504 cannot be based solely on a single source of data (i.e. a doctors diagnosis or grades). A medical diagnosis is NOT required under Section 504. Once a child has been deemed eligible for accommodations, a Section 504 Plan is then developed by a Section 504 committee.
