Giftedness falls into one or more of the following areas: intellectual, academic, creative, artistic and leadership.
The Scales for Identifying Gifted Students (SIGS) is a norm-referenced rating scale designed to assist school districts in the identification of students as gifted. The SIGS assesses seven areas: general intellectual ability, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, creativity, and leadership.
SIGS-2 offers the most comprehensive observational instrument available for identifying gifted students grades K12.
Each item is rated by a teacher on a 9-point scale divided into three ranges: 13 (below average), 46 (average), and 79 (above average). The GRS-S manual provides a classification system that indicates not whether a student is gifted, but rather the likelihood that a student is gifted, based on the T score.
