One of the objectives of the French Revolution was the abolition of privilege. This meant the removal of separate laws for different social classes (nobility, clergy, and ordinary people), instead subjecting everyone to the same common law.
Privilege separation requires defining and delineating employee, application, and system roles and tasks so that access is only granted to specific, discrete parts of systems or data as is necessary. When it comes to people, every user should have unique, separate credentials for each of their different account types.
Active privileges (may be referred to as admitting privileges) signify you will be eligible for appointment as medical staff. As part of the medical staff, you may admit to that hospital or medical center. Courtesy privilege means you may either admit patients occasionally or may act as consultant.
Types include admitting, surgical, consulting, emergency, and telemedicine privileges. Obtaining privileges requires credentialing, verification, and hospital board approval. Privileges must be renewed periodically and can be revoked for misconduct.
(3) The term clinical privileges includes privileges, membership on the medical staff, and the other circumstances pertaining to the furnishing of medical care under which a physician or other licensed health care practitioner is permitted to furnish such care by a health care entity.
