CP215: Notice of Penalty Charge The CP215 notice is issued by the IRS when a penalty has been assessed against your business for non-compliance with tax laws. This might include penalties for failing to file a return, failing to pay taxes on time, or other related infractions.
The IRS will send notice CP25 if there is a difference between the amount of estimated tax payments on a taxpayers return and the amount posted to their account, which required the IRS to make changes. The changes to the return, however, did not result in any additional tax owed or a refund.
The CP 25 is an Even Balance notice that notifies the taxpayer of a discrepancy between estimated tax credits claimed on return and credits posted to the account, resulting in an overpayment of less than $1.00, or a balance due of less than $5.00.
The late filing penalty is 5% of the additional taxes owed amount for every month (or fraction thereof) your return is late, up to a maximum of 25%. If you file more than 60 days after the due date, the minimum penalty is $510 (for tax returns required to be filed in 2025) or 100% of your unpaid tax, whichever is less.
