Children who will be 5 years old by September 30 of a given year are eligible to enter kindergarten. By the previous March, families should determine the school that their child will attend and contact the school to make arrangements for enrollment.
A child may enter kindergarten if they turn five on or before September 30 of the year they enter school. The age requirement is set by Virginia law and LCPS is unable to make any exceptions.
Step 1: Enter your address in our School Locator tool to find the school for which your home is zoned. Step 2: Assemble the documents needed to register your student. Click on the Instructions on Kindergarten registration or registration for grades 1-12 in the menu on the left side of this page.
The student ID number is the number the student uses when purchasing food in the cafeteria. If your child does not remember his/her ID number, it is the last five digits on the students report card and school ID card.
Virginia law states that parents must ensure a child attends school, if he or she will be five years old on or before September 30. However, if, in your opinion as a parent, your child is not mentally, physically, or emotionally prepared to attend school, he or she may be exempted for that year.
