Every operator maintaining a business in the City and renting guestrooms, shall collect a 7% seven percent tax of the amount paid by each occupant of a room with sleeping accommodations in a hotel. The tax shall not be imposed on permanent residents and excludes governmental agencies.
Georgia exempts sales and use taxes on a wide range of expenditures made by manufacturers. These include purchases of the following if they are integral to the manufacturing process: Machinery and equipment. Repair and replacement parts.
A signed registration card indicating a guest's intent to occupy a room for 30 days or longer is sufficient evidence. A written reservation or confirmation of a reservation that indicates the stay will be more than 30 days is also sufficient notice.
Besides the 6% hotel/motel tax and 7% sales tax, travelers also pay a statewide $5 per night fee. For hotels within the Savannah city limits, there is another $1 per night occupied room fee tacked onto the bill.
