To be employed in Michigan as a teacher, you must be at least 18 years of age, have a bachelors degree and a valid teaching certificate. All educators must complete the steps listed below as well as uphold standards of professional practice.
An endorsement can be added to a Michigan teaching certificate by way of one of the following paths: 1) Complete a state-approved endorsement program with at least 20 semester credit hours of coursework through a state-approved Educator Preparation Program (EPP).
Your Professional Educator License specifies what you are qualified to teach. An additional endorsement specifies additional content you are qualified to teach, like a grade level, or a specific class, or a niche-subject area. The endorsement verifies that youve added specialized skills to your skill set.
Additional Information: Completion of an undergraduate or graduate degree in a related field. Minimum 3.0 GPA or higher. If seeking Early Childhood (ZS) Endorsement, you must hold or be eligible for a valid Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate. Demonstrate potential for success in the program.

The Standard Teaching Certificate, previously called the Provisional Certificate, is the first teaching certificate available to Michigan teacher candidates. This certificate allows teachers to provide instruction in the subject(s) and grade level(s) indicated on the certificate.
