The Scales for Identifying Gifted Students (SIGS) is a norm-referenced rating scale designed to assist school districts in the identification of students as gifted. The SIGS assesses seven areas: general intellectual ability, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, creativity, and leadership.
The GRS-P consists of five scales (namely: Intellectual, Academic, Creativity, Artistic, and Motivation) with 12 items each (60 items). Each item in every scale is rated by a teacher on a 9-point scale divided into three ranges: 1 to 3 = below average, 4 to 6 = average, and 7 to 9 = above average.
Teachers complete six brief scales on the School-Age GRSS form to evaluate children between the ages of 6:0 through 13:11 years who are in grades 1 - 8. The six domains include: intellectual, academic, motivation, creativity, leadership and artistic talent.
To interpret a 4 point scale, assign each response a point value, from 1 to 4, based on the number of responses. Common values for the options start with strongly disagree at 1 point and strongly agree at 4.
