SUN Meals may have a different name where you live, but the benefit is the same: meals for kids and teens, and opportunities to participate in fun activities.
Children from families with incomes at or below 130 percent of the poverty level are eligible for free meals. Those with incomes between 130 percent and 185 percent of the poverty level are eligible for reduced-price meals, for which students can be charged no more than 40 cents.
The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides free meals and snacks to children and teens ages 18 and under when school is not in session. Children who eat healthy during summer remember more of what they learned in school and are better prepared when they go back in the fall.
