SLCs allow you to claim 80% of the course fee up to a maximum of 175 per financial year. The annual allowance cannot be carried forward or used for previous years. You can make more than one SLC claim in each financial year providing the maximum credit (175) has not been exceeded.
It allows for multiple, small-scale learning purposes and courses that have been approved by your Line Manager and Education Staff/Education Centre.
Enhanced learning credits can be used for up to 80% of a course; you have to cover the remaining 20% yourself (you can use your Resettlement Grant for this.) ELCs cannot be used towards travel, subsistence, accommodation, meals, equipment or course materials where additional fees apply.
Most single-semester college courses are worth 3 credits, or 9 hours of work per week. If youre hoping to graduate in 4 years, youll need to average 15 credits (roughly 5 courses) a semester. By this estimate, thats 45 hours of work per week!
You can spend up to 175 per financial year while in Service or during your resettlement phase. If you are diagnosed with a Specific Learning Difference, you can use SLC towards specialist tuition and support. You can even use it to buy software if it is bought to specifically support your Specific Learning Difference.
