Because CPP contributions cease on any income over $58,700, this is known as the maximum pensionable earnings amount (YMPE). This is why many workers see an increase in their take-home pay at some point during the year.
You can fill out this form only once in a calendar year. Once you file this form with your employer, you cannot make a change until the next calendar year.
If you are self-employed, you have to pay both the employee and the employer portions of the CPP contributions. Once you reach 70, you will stop making CPP contributions.
The employer also has to match your contributions for the year. For this reason CRA won't allow a back-date of a CPT30. You can send one in at any time now to stop contributions.
