Form 140PTC is used by qualified individuals to claim a refundable income tax credit for taxes paid on property located in Arizona that is either owned by or rented by the taxpayer. Form 140PTC provides a tax credit of up to $502.
You (or your spouse) were either 65 or older or received Title 16 Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments during 2024. Your total household income was less than $3,751 if you lived alone or $5,501 if you lived with someone else. You paid property taxes or rent on your main home in Arizona in 2024.
To claim the exemption, the homeowner must make a one-time filing with the county assessor where the property is located. The claim form, BOE-266, Claim for Homeowners Property Tax Exemption, is available from the county assessor.
To qualify, you must: File a state return. Be eligible for the CalEITC (income requirement is an exception) No more than $31,950 in earned income. For tax year 2022 forward, no earned income is required. You may even have a net loss of as much as $34,602 for tax year 2024 if you otherwise meet the CalEITC requirements.
Individuals filing an income tax return using Form 140, Form 140A, Form 140EZ or Form 140PY can claim this credit by completing the worksheet on the instructions of these forms. Taxpayers can also use Form 140PTC to claim the credit for increase excise tax and the property tax credit.
