The Illinois Secretary of States office provides temporary 90-day parking placards to residents with disabilities. Residents must complete the form provided by the Illinois Secretary of State. The individual with a disability and their physician, who certifies to the disability, must complete the application.
SIZE AND MARKINGS Each accessible parking space, except on-street spaces, shall be 16 feet wide, including either an eight-foot or five-foot wide diagonally striped access aisle.
Applications for a Permanent Placard must be sent to the Illinois Secretary of State. Application forms are available online through the Illinois Secretary of States website. They must be completed by the applicant and their physician. There is no charge for a temporary placard.
Disability parking placards are free to eligible Illinois residents.
Parking space dimensions: Designs should adhere to the following standards: On street parallel parking: 2.0m x 6.0m, disabled parking space is a minimum of 2.7 m x 6.6m (preferably 3.6m x 6.6m).
