(a) Domicile means the place where an individual has a true, fixed permanent home, and to which place, whenever the person is absent, he or she has the intention of returning. An individual may have several places of abode in a year, but at no time can he or she have more than one domicile.
You qualify as a Vermont resident for that part of the taxable year during which: You are domiciled in Vermont, or. You maintain a permanent home in Vermont, and you are present in Vermont for more than 183 days of the taxable year.
Make out a Declaration of Domicile (a legal document that defines where you reside and where you intend to reside permanently) file it with the clerk of courts in the county of domicile, and keep a copy with your important documents (such as your will). File any local tax returns required from residents.
