The sales tax rate of 6.35% applies to the retail sale, lease, or rental of most goods (including digital goods, which are described in Special Notice 2019(8), Sales and Use Taxes on Digital Goods and Canned or Prewritten Software) and taxable services. However, see Special Sales Tax Rates Apply to Certain Sales.
Unlike other states, it is effective across Connecticut, meaning that there are no local sales tax rules. The rate is applicable for all business transactions that occur within the state so a flat sales tax of 6.35% is relevant whenever you sell tangible goods or services to your customers in Connecticut.
From 1 April 2023, two rates of corporation tax (CT) apply - a main rate of 25% and a small profits rate of 19%. The rules dictating which rate applies to a company in any accounting period can be complex, and include a requirement to identify associated companies.
Connecticut has a 7.5 percent corporate income tax rate. Connecticut also has a 6.35 percent state sales tax rate and does not have local sales taxes. Connecticut has a 1.78 percent effective property tax rate on owner-occupied housing value.
While most clothing is taxable, certain protective clothing and gear are exempt from this tax. Connecticut imposes a 7.75% luxury tax on apparel, handbags, luggage, umbrellas, wallets, and watches priced over $1,000, which is higher than the general sales tax rate of 6.35%.
