The event for which an admission is charged is located in a county with a surtax. (Surtax is due at the rate in the county where the event takes place.)
Facilities that are registered as 501(c)(3) nonprofit, educational or charitable entities are free to purchase materials, supplies and most services without paying Florida sales tax.
In addition to the 6% base sales tax rate, counties can assess a local discretionary sales surtax. Miami-Dade County currently has a discretionary sales surtax of 1%. Therefore, sales of tangible property in our county are subject to a total sales tax rate of 7%.

What Is a Surtax? A surtax is a tax levied on top of another tax. The tax can be calculated as a percentage of a certain given amount or it can be a flat dollar charge. A surtax is also known as a tax surcharge.
It applies to wages and self-employment income above $250,000 per couple or $200,000 for a single person. For an employee who earns more than $200,000, s/he would be taxed the regular Medicare tax of 1.45% on the first $200,000 of compensation plus 0.9% surtax on any excess amount over $200,000.
