* The Child Tax Credit under 2018 tax reform is worth up to $2,000 per qualifying child. The age cut-off remains at 17 (the child must be under 17 at the end of the year for taxpayers to claim the credit). * The refundable portion of the credit is limited to $1,400.
State legislation in 2025 (A 3009) temporarily expands the credit for different tax years. 2025-2026 tax year: $1,000 times each child 3 and under; $330 times each child 4-16. 2026-2028 tax years: $1,000 times each child 3 and under; $500 times each child 4-16. The legislation also included phase-out criteria.

For tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2023, the credit includes qualifying children under four years of age but under 17, who meet income limitations.
