To register a boat that has never been titled in South Carolina, youll need to first pay your property taxes on the boat in your name with your county. Youll need to submit a receipt of the paid tax along with your Watercraft/Outboard Motor Titling and Registration Application and other supporting documents.
You may search Coast Guard Documented Vessels by their names, Hull Identification Numbers or Official Numbers via the CGMIX Coast Guard Port State Information Exchange. The search will reveal the Vessel Information (Vessel Name, Official Number, Hull Identification Number, Flag, etc.)
Can I renew my registration online? You can renew your watercraft online only if: The boat has been determined tax exempt by your county. The property taxes have been paid to the county but the registration renewal fee of $10.00 was not paid to the county.
You will need to submit the following: Watercraft/Outboard Motor Application (completed and signed) Original Title(s) (completed, signed, and notorized if required) Written Bill of Sale (if there is an outboard motor) Pencil tracing (if traceable), or printed photograph of: Registration Card for the Boat (if available)
A $30.00 late fee is required if application for registration renewal is not received within 60 days after registration expires. The late fee is applied on the 61st day after the expiration date of the watercraft decal. A $30.00 late fee applies to S.C.
