A student must pass a minimum of 24 academic credits each academic year (A through D term) to keep the same level of WPI institutional funding for the following academic year.
Instead of semesters, which are well suited for traditional coursework, a WPI academic year is made up of seven-week terms: four in the traditional academic year and two during an optional summer term. Taking three courses a term creates space for the cooperative, open-ended project work at the core of the WPI Plan.
Unlike many universities, WPI does NOT have a reading period or finals period. If instructors give a cumulative final exam, its scheduled within the regular 7-week term (undergraduate courses) or 14-week semester (most graduate courses).
