To qualify for homestead: You must own the property, or be a relative or in-law of the owner (son, daughter, parent, grandchild, grandparent, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, niece or nephew). You or your relative must occupy the property as the primary place of residence. You must be a Minnesota resident.
The Homestead Refund is a rebate program for the property taxes paid by homeowners prior to January 1, 2024. The refund is based on a portion of the property tax paid on a Kansas residents homestead. If you own your home, the refund is a percentage of your general property tax. The maximum refund is $700.
The home must be considered the deeded owners primary residence for more than six months out of the year in order to qualify. All deeded owners must be living in the home in order to receive the full 100% exemption, otherwise the percentage of exemption may be reduced.
Government Exemptions Property used exclusively for state, municipal or political subdivision purposes, including leased vehicles if leased for a period of at least one year and property leased for medical services and certain property funded by industrial revenue bonds, up to 10 years.
