Form 3500A is an abbreviated two-pages, in comparison to the rather lengthy Form 3500 previously required.
Non-charitable nonprofits, specifically those recognized by the IRS as exempt under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 501(c)(4), (5), (6), and (7), are now permitted to file the short Form 3500A, previously used only by 501(c)(3) organizations.
Application Fees: The $25 application fee is no longer required for FTB 3500 filed on or after 01/01/2021. Filing Fees: The $10 filing fee and the $25 late return filing fee are no longer required for Form 199 due on or after 01/01/2021, regardless of when the returns are actually filed.
Incorporated or unincorporated organizations that want to obtain California tax-exempt status must file form FTB 3500A. See General Information B, What and Where to File, for more information.
