Holiday pay includes the base pay an employee would normally receive for a standard workday, along with an additional premium, often called holiday premium. For example, if employees work on a holiday, they may receive time-and-a-half (1.5 times their regular rate) or double time (2 times their regular rate).
Holiday pay, which is sometimes referred to as double-time, is not to be confused with overtime pay. Holiday premium pay is pay for non-overtime hours of work. Overtime premium pay is pay for hours of work in excess of the daily or weekly overtime standards, regardless of the day.
Most employers pay 1.5 times the regular rate. However, some employers provide double pay. Multiply the regular wage by the premium pay rate. Then, multiply this sum by the number of hours worked.
Holiday work means non-overtime work performed by employees during their regularly scheduled daily tour of duty on a holiday.
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) does not require payment for time not worked, such as vacations or holidays (federal or otherwise).

To calculate overtime or the holiday pay rate for an hourly employee using this method, multiply their regular pay rate by 1.5. So if your employees normal pay rate is $16 per hour, their holiday pay rate is $24 per hour.
3. Decide how youll calculate holiday pay. The most common holiday pay rate formula is 1.5 times or 2.0 times the employees regular pay rate.
Employees who are required to work on a holiday receive their rate of basic pay, plus holiday premium pay, for each hour of holiday worki.e., double or 200 percent of their rate of basic pay. (See 5 U.S.C. 5546(b) and 5 CFR 550.131(a); and, for Federal Wage System employees, 5 CFR 532.507(a).)
