Instead of the standard eight-year contract that you used to have to fulfill with the Air Force, you can now enlist for a period of four years for Active Duty and 2 years for the Guard and Reserves, which is the shortest, standard contract that the Air Force offers to all potential recruits.
The DD 214 is normally issued in 2 versions - Member 1 (short form) which has the discharge information on the bottom of the form removed and either the Member 4 or Service 2 (long form) which contains the discharge information - which one you receive depends on when you separated.
The form DD214 (Member 4 copy only) is the document that discharged members submit with their application to show proof of service. If the DD214 does not show the location and dates where the member was deployed or stationed then additional documentation is required.
