This form can be completed on paper or by using the electronic FAA Form 337. Information can be found online at or by contacting your local FSDO.
If you replace the engine and wing vs repair them then no 337 needed. If repairing and depending how the repair is classified, an AP with Inspection Authorization (IA) is needed to sign the 337. As to applicant, it usually is the AP performing the repair and/or the IA who approves it for return to service.
The person who performs or supervises a major repair or major alteration must prepare FAA Form 337. The form is executed at least in duplicate and is used to record major repairs and major alterations made to an aircraft, airframe, powerplant, propeller, appliance, or a component part thereof.
According to FAA regulations, a total of three copies of Form 337 are required for any major alterations or repairs: One copy must be submitted to the FAA to record the changes officially.
Give the original of the form to the aircraft owner or operator, and send the duplicate copy to the local FAA district office within 48 hours after the work is inspected. b. Non-previously Approved Date. The forms will be completed as instructed in this AC, leaving item 7, Approval for Return to Service, blank.
