Arkansas homestead law originates from the states constitution, but also is encoded in statute. The state allows a maximum exemption amount of $2,500 of ones equity, with a maximum of one acre (1/4 acre minimum) for urban properties and 160 acres if rural. Stat. 77-3502. To qualify for a homestead exemption under this category, an individual must: ❖ Be 65 or older before January 1 of the application year; ❖ Own and occupy a homestead continuously from January 1 through August 15; and ❖ Have qualifying household income see Table I.
The Homestead Exemption is a valuable property tax benefit that can save homeowners up to $50,000 on their taxable value. The first $25,000 of this exemption applies to all taxing authorities. The second $25,000 excludes School Board taxes and applies to properties with assessed values greater than $50,000.

Homestead Tax Credit Homeowners in Arkansas may receive a homestead property tax credit of up to $425 per year. Beginning with the 2025 tax bills the general assembly has authorized an increase up to $500.
