Every state in the U.S., including South Carolina, has adopted a version of the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act (UIFSA). This law recognizes that states can enforce child support payments and penalties for failing to pay even if a parent moves out of state.
The most fundamental difference between the UCCJEA and the UIFSA is the approach to the other jurisdiction needed. In addition to the requisite subject matter jurisdiction, the UCCJEA requires a court have status jurisdiction vis-a-vis the child.
The Uniform Interstate Family Support Act (UIFSA) was first adopted in 1992 by the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (now the Uniform Law Commission), and amended in 1996, 2001, and 2008.
The Uniform Interstate Family Support Act, known as UIFSA, is a law adopted in all 50 states that ensures child and spousal support orders can be enforced and modified across state lines.
If another states assistance is needed, UIFSA enables Texas and the other state to cooperate to establish a child support order in that state. Before UIFSA and a federal law that became effec- tive in 1996, different states could, over time, enter different support orders.

The federal Uniform Interstate Family Support Act (UIFSA) provides that New Jersey child support can be carried out if the payor lives out of state. This law requires employers to comply with the incoming withholding orders of other states, countries or tribal governments and puts limits on where orders can be changed.
The purpose of UIFSA is to provide a consistent framework for determining which state has jurisdiction to establish, modify, and enforce child support orders, and to ensure that child support obligations are met across state lines.
