The Colorado Academic Standards are the expectations of what students need to know and be able to do at the end of each grade. They also stand as the values and content organizers of what Colorado sees as the future skills and essential knowledge for our next generation to be more successful.
What are content standards? Content standards are educational learning and achievement goals that state education officials either require or recommend that local schools satisfy in K-12 instruction.
All teacher candidates (including elementary, secondary and special education) must demonstrate competence in six teacher quality standards including: Knowledge of Content (including literacy and math), Establishing a Safe Learning Environment, Facilitating Learning, Reflection, Leadership and Student Growth.
The Colorado Academic Standards (CAS) include 10 content areas for preschool through 12th grade (comprehensive health; dance; drama and theater arts; mathematics; music; physical education; reading, writing and communicating; science; social studies; visual arts; and world languages) and incorporate the Common Core
