What is a Credit Hour? Credits to be earnedHours per week, 7-week courseHours per week, 14-week course 1 credit 6 hours 3 hours 3 credits 18 hours 9 hours 6 credits 36 hours 18 hours 12 credits 72 hours 36 hours
Academic credit is offered by the semester credit hour and is based on 750 minutes of instruction per credit hour awarded. This means 1 credit hour = 15 clock hours with the clock hour defined as 50-60 minutes.
This determination is made by dividing the total number of clock hours in a course by 30. The result is the new total credit hours for the course in which financial aid will be paid.
1-semester credit = 15 clock hours; 1 PGP until 6-30-18 = 30 clock hours; 1 PGP as of 7-1-18 = 25 clock hours.
How does the conversion work? Simply put, a one credit course must include a minimum of 30 in-class/clock hours for a student to receive the full financial aid benefits. For example, a three-credit course should equal 90 clock hours (30 class hours x 3 credits = 90 clock hours).
