The ECERS is a classroom assessment tool designed to measure the quality of group programs for infants and toddlers (birth to age 3) by collecting data through classroom observations and a staff interview. The assessment is a 43-item rating scale organized into seven environmental subscales.
ECERS-3\u2122 Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale®, 3rd ed. -- A thorough revision of the ECERS-R\u2122, designed to assess group programs for preschool-kindergarten aged children, from 3 through 5 years of age.
It is a better indicator of the level of future success for children in the elementary school grades. To be considered valid, the tool must answer the question, \u201cDoes it measure what's important?\u201d In other words, we want proof that the scale scores are valid and measuring quality care and education for children.

Using the guidelines adopted by other researchers where scores below 3.00 are considered \u201cpoor,\u201d scores between 3.00 and 4.99 are considered \u201caverage,\u201d and scores above 5.00 are considered \u201cgood\u201d (Burchinal et al., 2000; Helburn et al., 1995), the mean ECERS-R score in our study would be considered average.
