The following questions may be helpful to you as you begin to analyze the sources: Look at the physical nature of your source. Think about the purpose of the source. How does the author try to get the message across? What do you know about the author? Who constituted the intended audience?
Examples of primary sources: Diaries, letters, memoirs, autobiographies. Interviews, speeches, oral histories, personal narratives. Scientific data and reports.
Examining the meaning, content, bias, purpose, and point of view presented in a primary source will help students to further develop their critical thinking skills as well as foster learner-led inquiry.
