The Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa ruled on the case between the Law Society of the Northern Provinces and attorney Siphiwe Freeman Dube regarding allegations of misconduct. The court found that while Dube had committed acts of dishonesty, including theft of client files and misappropriation of funds, his actions did not warrant removal from the roll of attorneys. Instead, he was conditionally suspended from practice for one year and ordered to pay costs. The appeal by the Law Society was largely dismissed, but the court altered the costs order to a punitive scale.
