Professional archivists often recommend using a #2 pencil on the back of photographic prints that are fiber-based (the back feels like regular paper).
The Sharpie ink dries instantly on the photo paper. Theres no smudging or smearing. Just clean, clear, colourful images. And the markers glide so smoothly over the glossy paper.
The Sharpie Paint markers are very good. They make a fine tip that will work very well for glossy signatures. They also have a good consistency, and hold a even flow as you write.
I know how smoothly a Sharpie slides across a plastic surface, and I wondered if it would do the same on a glossy piece of photo paper. I tried it out, and ohhhh myyyy. It sure does! And with the photo paper being glossy, the shine and intensity of the marker ink was just gorgeous!
If you can, use a soft lead pencil to write informationincluding whos in a photo, the date it was taken, the occasion, and where it was takenon the back of a photograph (where the information will never become separated from the image). Soft lead is important because hard lead pencils will leave an indentation.
Write on back of photo using a soft lead pencil Soft lead is important because hard lead pencils will leave an indentation. Place the photo face down on a clean, dry surface and write with light pressure.
The Sakura Microperm works better on glossy paper than the normal Sakura Pigma Micron. PinkNoodle: Some of my go-to pens for shiny backs have already been mentioned: Sakura Pigma Microns and Ultra Fine Sharpies.
Any pigmented, non-water-based marker should work. I dont which, if any, would be smoother than an ultra-fine Sharpie, though. Some ballpoints (not gels) will likely also work, especially with broad tips. Why would anyone produce a glossy-paper workbook?
