A URL shortener is an app that converts a long URL into a short URL. The idea is to minimize the web page address into something thats easier to remember and track. Typically, it shortens the websites address and adds a random combination of letters and numbers.
Shortening a URL is simple: Copy the long URL from your website, social media account, or other long web address location. Navigate to a link-shortening service. Enter your URL and request link creation. Save your new URL.
A URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is the address of a unique resource on the internet. It is one of the key mechanisms used by browsers to retrieve published resources, such as HTML pages, CSS documents, images, and so on. In theory, each valid URL points to a unique resource.
A URL Shortener tool works by creating a new shortened link that redirects to the same page the original, complicated link redirects to. These tools replace the URL with a new domain (e.g., buffer.com changes to buff.ly or bit.ly), and the permalink is replaced by a string of numbers and/or letters.
You normally create a new URL object by specifying the URL as a string when calling its constructor, or by providing a relative URL and a base URL. You can then easily read the parsed components of the URL or make changes to the URL.
A URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is a unique identifier used to locate a resource on the Internet. It is also referred to as a web address. URLs consist of multiple parts -- including a protocol and domain name -- that tell a web browser how and where to retrieve a resource.
Cons of using URL shorteners Hampers link-worthiness. URL shorteners shorten the link to sometimes hide the website domain and make it look random. Increases broken link possibility. Shortened links become obsolete and undocHubable quite often. Compromises users security.
Shortened URLs, such as those from bit.ly and goo.gl make it easy to type in a web address quickly, but difficult to determine where the web browser will actually take you. Criminals will use shortened URLs to direct victims to phishing sites or initiate a download of malicious software on to your device.
