Attachments that contain macros look like any other Microsoft Word or Microsoft PowerPoint document, except their file extension will be slightly different. Instead of the classic ppt or doc, the file extensions indicate that there is a macro by appending an m to the extension, becoming pptm or docm.
Heres how you can find macros and VBA modules in your document: In Word or Excel, click View Macro View Macros. In PowerPoint, click View Macro.
A file with the DOCM file extension is a Microsoft Word macro-enabled document. Introduced in Office 2007, they are like DOCX files in that they can also store formatted text, images, shapes, charts, etc., but theyre different because they can execute macros to automate tasks in Word.
docx does not allow macros, while . dotm do.) I guess you should add a warning that this applies only if Office is kept up-to-date, otherwise it might be vulnerable to publicly known exploits which are worth worrying about.
