What is Radix 64 Encoding? Radix 64 encoding allows binary data stored in octets (i.e. bytes) to be expressed as printable characters.
How to use the Base64 encode online tool Choose the source of data from the Datatype field. Type the text, paste the URL, or select a file from your computer. If necessary, select the Base64 standard used to encode the data. If necessary, choose the output character encoding of the text data.
The = sign is used to indicate padding if the input string length is not a multiple of 3 bytes. If we have four bytes for the input, then the base64 encoding ends with two equal signs, just to indicate that it had to add two characters of padding.
When decoding Base64 text, four characters are typically converted back to three bytes. The only exceptions are when padding characters exist. A single = indicates that the four characters will decode to only two bytes, while == indicates that the four characters will decode to only a single byte. A Base64 string will end with == if and only if the number of bytes it encodes, mod 3, equals 1. Do you see the pattern? It happens that 16-byte (128-bit) encryption keys are very commonly encoded in Base64, and since 16 mod 3 = 1, their encoding will end with == . But your string, decoded, is 61 bytes (488 bits) long. What all encryption uses == in the last? - Stack Overflow Stack Overflow questions what-all-encryp Stack Overflow questions what-all-encryp
Base64-encoded Base64-encoded data is represented with standard ASCII characters, so its perfect for sending images or other binary data over a text-based system like email. Keep in mind that if you see an equals sign (or two) at the end of a string, thats a strong indicator that the data is Base64 encoded. How Base64 works. Fundamentally, Base64 is used to encode binary data as printable text. This allows you to transport binary over protocols or mediums that cannot handle binary data formats and require simple text.
