What are the Themes in Excel? Themes in Excel are inbuilt and customizable functions that help change the look or formatting of the entire workbook. Themes are created with a collection of colors, fonts, and shape effects.

Please go to the Page Layout tab of the Ribbon and click the Themes button. The currently selected Theme will be highlighted, as shown in this screen shot. You may have selected a Theme that has all grayscale options.
If you havent already applied a theme, on the Design tab, click Themes, and then click the one you want to use. Customize the theme any way you like by changing the colors, fonts, paragraph spacing, watermark, background colors, or page borders on the Design tab.
To switch to another theme, click Page Layout Themes, and pick the one you want. To customize that theme, you can change its colors, fonts, and effects as needed, save them with the current theme, and make it the default theme for all new workbooks if you want.
Themes are a combination of colors, fonts and effects that can be applied to worksheets. You can select from the predefined, built-in themes, or you can get creative and modify existing theme elements.
Excel has several built-in font sets that can be applied as a worksheets Theme Fonts. A font set consists of a Heading font and a Body font. Applying theme font sets helps you keep a consistent look and feel across different workbooks.
