For the in text citation, either state the entire name of the source as a signal phrase, or use a part of the phrase in parentheses. Example: There is evidence that as many as 40% of all elementary students experience some type of bullying (Saving our Schools).
APA in-text citation style uses the authors last name and the year of publication, for example: (Field, 2005). For direct quotations, include the page number as well, for example: (Field, 2005, p. 14).
The abbreviation et al. (meaning and others) is used to shorten APA in-text citations with three or more authors. Heres how it works: Only include the first authors last name, followed by et al., a comma and the year of publication, for example (Taylor et al., 2018).
An APA in-text citation consists of the authors last name and the year of publication (also known as the author-date system). If youre citing a specific part of a source, you should also include a locator such as a page number or timestamp. For example: (Smith, 2020, p. 170).
For the in-text citation, include the author and year of both the original and secondary sources. Add as cited in between the sources in the in-text citation. For example, (Smith, 2015, as cited in Jonson, 2019).
For example: Smith (2009) noted that this was correct in his study. Smith (2009) noted that this was correct in his study (p. Smith noted that this was correct in his study (2009, p. The study we have referred to found that all was correct (Smith, 2009, p. Smith (2009) found that all was correct (p.
APA citation basics When using APA format, follow the author-date method of in-text citation. This means that the authors last name and the year of publication for the source should appear in the text, for example, (Jones, 1998), and a complete reference should appear in the reference list at the end of the paper.
When you use a quotation mid-sentence, end the quote with quotation marks and cite the source in parentheses immediately after, and continue the sentence. If the authors name and the date of publication are included before the quotation, then provide only the page numbers immediately after the quotation.
