Log table (logarithm table) is used in performing bigger calculations (of multiplication, division, squares, and roots) without using a calculator. The logarithm of a number to a given base is the exponent by which that base should be raised to give the original number.
logarithm: The power (or exponent) to which one base number must be raised multiplied by itself to produce another number. For instance, in the base 10 system, 10 must be multiplied by 10 to produce 100. So the logarithm of 100, in a base 10 system, is 2.
Tables containing common logarithms (base-10) were extensively used in computations prior to the advent of electronic calculators and computers because logarithms convert problems of multiplication and division into much easier addition and subtraction problems.
How to Use Logarithm Table? Step 1: Choose the value from the table. Step 2: Determine the numbers decimal and integer parts. Step 3: Visit the common log table and check the intersections below for the cell value: Step 4: Utilize the Common Logarithm table with a mean difference at all times.
A logarithm is the power to which a number must be raised in order to get some other number (see Section 3 of this Math Review for more about exponents). For example, the base ten logarithm of 100 is 2, because ten raised to the power of two is 100: log 100 = 2. because. 102 = 100.
You can use the search box at the top of the table viewer to enter a query to filter the data, or you can use the column filters to narrow down the data by specific values. You can also use the table viewer to create charts and other visualizations of the data.
Using an example, we have presented a step-by-step procedure for determining the values: Step 1: Determine the base for the table. Step 2: Determine the whole numbers integer and decimal components. Step 3: Return to the common log table and search for the cell value at the intersections.
